Each year, the Rotary Club of Griffin provides dictionaries to every sixth grade student in the Griffin-Spalding County School System. We label Each dictionary with a Four-Way Test sticker. Education committee chair Matt Rahn enlists the help of Griffin High and Spalding High Interactors in labeling the dictionaries. Volunteers from the club visited all four middle schools in Spalding County to personally hand out each dictionary to the children.
Rotarians explained to the children the importance of dictionaries in their education. They also explained what the Rotary Club is and what it means to be a Rotarian. Students and teachers were very appreciative, and this project is always a very rewarding experience that draws a number of Rotarian volunteers.
This was the twelfth year Rotarians have given dictionaries to local school system students. We estimate that we have distributed approximately 7,500 dictionaries over the years.
